QUICKSTEP
Oh, how we love quickstep! It's the brightest, most energetic and playful of the ballroom dances. With its history in the charleston era and its roots in foxtrot, ragtime, and lively folk dancing, it grows from quick but simple footwork into a dance peppered with runs, skips, and fast intricate patterns.
We don't teach quickstep to beginners. It's trickier than the other ballroom dances (except for English foxtrot), so you really need to be well-equipped with a decent technical foundation before you start on this dance. But it's worth the wait. Danced well, it's exhilarating.
Quickstep music lives in the same family as foxtrot, but is considerably faster. You'll find quicksteps across a whole lot of genres: loads of them in swing, ragtime and honky-tonk styles; loads more in energetic country music (it's a dance made of gallops, so it's perfect for all those horses!); and traditional Broadway musicals offer plenty as well.
